Last Post

I have much distress… this is the last English post of this year!  I didn’t imagine that this day was coming  :(.
I was on three other English courses at University, and this is that one I like, mainly because the hours of class are very comfortable for me. Furthermore the other classes had very basic issues and the activities were like on the school.

I like this class because is very practical. Mondays with blogs sessions, and Wednesdays with vocabulary practice has given me tools to enhance the language. But I recognized that still I have much to learn. I have many problems with speak and wrote in English. I listen and reading very well the language, but on the other cases I get very nervous and sometimes forgot the words or conjugates because this.

With the  Blogs Sessions I improve on writing, but not very much. I think that blogs are very good idea to practice language, but the activity need more feedback of teachers. Like grammatical corrections for example, because sometimes I think that it’s everything is OK on the post, but that is not really.

I plan improve my English with more practice and maybe one more course in an institute or similar, because I think that very important to have another language on journalism career. Today I work very much with websites and social networks, and in that world, know other languages (especially English) are very necessary.

On this days I was  reading a lot of documents in English, and I think that this last English course helped very much to improve my reading.  By the way, sometimes I don’t need subtitles on movies or TV series, because I understand clearly the language  :)!

I know that I’ m not the best student of the class but I know that I need to improve. maybe when I can devote more time to English.

a strange superhero

I don't like very much the superhero movies, except some exceptions like  Nolan's Batman trilogy, Avengers, V for Vendetta, or Watchmen,  I think that cinema versions lose the essence of original comic characters, because them don't have the same profundity that in the graphic novels.
But on the genre I  enjoyed one specially, not  for the great  profundity, or the great story behind, but that movie is practically the same as comicbook, furthermore is  very entertaiment.

the movie called "Kick-Ass" and story tells about the life of a geek boy that not have any power  but he  wants to be a superhero. But he don't have many idea of the dangers of the city. Because of this,  in his first  mission he received a  great beat up by thugs.

 He begin to be known by video records by cellphones and people uploads this to internet  and social networks. He became  very popular but when he involucred with the big bosses of  crime, he knows how violent is that world.

This movie is very violent, lot of  arms and blood like Tarantino's Kill Bill,  I saw in it. Furthermore  "Kick-Ass" have a lot of black humor and very good action sequences.

The Movie is starring by Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Clöe Grace Moretz (as Hit Girl.. best character of movie!) and Nicolas Cage (as a superhero called "Big Daddy") .... Really I hate the last movies of Nicolas Cage because are very boooring, but this is the exception.

I saw this movie on cinema with one of my best  friends. We had great expectations, and when we leave cinema we are very satisfy. We are sorprise because the movie was  for a very short time on chilean theaters. In general "Kick-Ass" had a low audience, but today is considered as a cult movie.

Today I waiting for the second part (with special guest starring like Jim Carrey) and i want to believe that will premiere on chilean cinemas.

Chilean democracy?

I’ am a part of the many people that didn’t vote. I living in La Granja and this commune had the same major since 1996. For these elections he not participates but his politician party (Democracia Cristiana) presented other man to replace him.  

This candidate was present the same program that him predecessor; basically his campaign’s slogan says “the growth continues”.  And I say… “What growth?” really I don’t understand what they calling “growth”.  They thinking only on new constructions like repair roads or remodel squares, but education, health and public politics for community are like only words on program but don’t have any proposal of this.

I was decide not vote because this candidate (that the people says “el mal menor”) not convinced to me,  and never  choose the other option because This man is  of “Renovación Nacinal”, and I not shared my ideals with this party.

I believe that many people didn’t vote because people don’t satisfy with political system. The students protest at 2011 demonstrates a great upset with all of the political class, and this was demonstrated on elections.

The politicians don’t understand that, but actual Chilean democracy is not a really space for representation.

What is the next step for the Chilean politicians after that?  I don’t  know, but politics needs more direct participation of people, not only vote, a real participation.

I think of that very much  and I have a question…  People didn’t vote if  vote wasn’t voluntary? 

When I read the question “how is the greatest Chilean of all time?” on teacher’s blog, I really don’t imagine a guy that I consider  the best guy of this country. If question was  “how is the worst Chilean…?”, many people appears on my mind (and the answers had been  more easy), but that is not the case.
 For this answer I didn’t choose a historical character or an emblematic political, I choose  two important audiovisual creative   of this time. They are Pedro Peirano and Alvaro Díaz.
They are the masterminds behind great tv programs, like “Plan Z” or “31 Minutos”, two of the most memorable of Chilean television. They began studying journalism at Universidad de Chile and one of their first programs was their university thesis. This is called “El Factor Humano”, a program of mini documentaries in a first person cam. This meant a new audiovisual language for Chilean TV and today is considered a cult program.
One of the special characteristic of their work is the mix of interesting issues and humor. For example, in “31 Minutos” (a puppet show) had a section calls “La Ruta verde” where a Bunny called “Juan Carlos Bodoque” taught the children to protect environment, with gags and unusual situations.
They are an inspiration for me because I want to specialize on audiovisual production, and make good programs like those.

The results of my practice test are very regular. The first exercises were very simple. The two first items were about reading little paragraphs to answer the questions. Often short extension, the paragraph had to read with careful because the answers had some word for confuse. The third reading item was a text more extensive, but the difficulty not changed much. In this activities I had all the answers correct.
On the next two items, difficult increases a little because these were a listening exercise. In the first exercise, I had all answers correct, but on second item I had only half correct.
The follow item was very simple. This was to complete a sentence with a correct word. In this I have seventeen of twenty five correct answers.
But the last two excercises were very difficult for me. One of my weaknesses on english class is when I writing texts, and that  exercise was that. I had two correct answers on the first exercise, and on  last exercise I tried much  to answered correctly, but still more attempts, I got a few of correct answer.
I think that I do practice more on write exercises because this is my principal weakness. I understand the English language very good when I listen or read . But when I write or speak on the language, I get nervous and I ever forgot the words.

a freak present

had a lot of presents in my high school graduation that was a very special moment for me and my family. But one of these presents was very freak, and still today I try to sell it.

To contextualize, I studied industrial mechanics at a technical high school, and on the last year I had to go two days at the week to school, and three days to an enterprise for the practice. On the graduation ceremony, the high school gave presents for the students with the best marks, and too for the students well regarded  at the practice’s enterprises. 

I knew that I wasn’t the best student on my class because I ever was the "second best student" on the four years of high school. I didn’t have any hopes to take a present, but I was very surprised when the presenter says my name: “And the prize for the best student on the practice of this class is… Iván Cea”.

Whaaaat?? I didn’t understand this. I really hated the career, the enterprise, and this high school, but all considered me the best student. I stood up to take the present, and I received a little box. I was very curious to know what was, and when I opened this I saw… what?? A SCIENTIST CALCULATOR!!

Well… my classmate that wins the “best student's  prize, obtained a hand drill.

Today I'm studying journalism at university and I never used the calculator, I tried to sell  it in every e-commerce website like “mercadolibre.cl”, but I don’t have any results. 

I think that this "present" is a reminder that I shouldn’t do or study something that I really don’t like.

first day at U

I remember much my first day at University. That day I felt very nervous because I had a sabbatical year, and I hadn’t classes a year ago. I felt that lost the study habits, and I thought that it would have detrimental effects. 

That day I woke up very early, an unusual feature of me, because I always arrive late to every place. When I arrive to U, I saw a lot of people very confused. They were my classmates and were waiting the teacher coming. 

I already knew a group of my classmates, because we had a meeting to know each other a week before the class begin. 

My first class was with María Olivia Monckeberg, a famous Chilean journalist with a lot of published research.  This class called “ethic and journalism treatments”, and I thought that was a very interesting class, but on this case teacher only read the class program, and she talked us all the class about her and her books.

After this I and my classmates go to the auditorium for the official welcome of the university authorities. When that act finished a photographer took the official picture of the first grade of journalism career. 

Next my classmate were gathered on the “pastos” a typical place at Juan Gomez Millas campus for the social life and parties, for converse and knows each other better. I could not stay along because on that moment I had a girlfriend and I was get together with her… but this an another history.

a very good time

This national holydays was very untypical comparing with other years; I usually don’t celebrate “Fiestas Patrias” because I don’t have a great nationalist spirit. Commonly I celebrate only on September 18th and 19^th  with friends in house, but I don’t go much to “fondas” or other partys.

                But this year I celebrated from September 14^th to September 22th. The first day was Friday and I start to celebrated on “Las Tejas” bar. That day my plan was to go to “Fonda Fau” the most important students “fonda” on the “Universidad de Chile”, but in their place was many people and I can’t enter. On “Las Tejas” bar I had a good time with friends, drinking “terremotos” and making good new friends.

                On Sartuday I wnt to a “peña” in “La Florida” with a great group of friends. On this place, a music band of my friends was playing cumbias for all the people in there.

                Sunday was a family day. My father cooked a barbecue and  all family members goes to my house.

                The following days I continued my celebration on “fondas” and friends houses, I met a lot of new people, but in some cases I don’t remember much their faces, but a I think was the work of the alcohol.
                I didn't  leave of Santiago this holydays, but  this was not necessary this year to have a very good time. 

The surname is a coincidence...

I don’t have many friends. I consider me a very social guy, but I don’t give my confidence to much people. One of these friends when I consider special is called Andrés Cea.  Despite his surname, he isn’t my brother, cousin or other family outreach; this is only a coincidence because I met him on secondary.

I studied at “Liceo Industrial Chileno Alemán de Ñuñoa”, and I met him on the second year of secondary. With two guys more, we were the group in the class that always sat at the end of the hall. Always I joked with Andrés, on that pic for example we posed like “pokemon” style.

When I left the high school, I thought  I would never see my friends more. But Andrés lives two blocks more from my house; therefore he always goes to my house, and I always visited him.

Nowadays he is one of the few friends of my school days.   I don’t see much him last year, because I stay all the day at the university, and he goes at the university everyday too, and at the nights he works in a bar.

One or two times at the month, we go for a drink and talks about the life.

A stressful semester

The first term of 2012 is one of the most stressful semesters I’ve had at university. I had the last classes of 2011 in January and the beginning of February of 2012, because seven months student’s strike of last year. And this semester stared at March of this year!

Furthermore, the courses of this semester were very difficult, especially the “television production” course, and the “seminary” course. The last one is very important because is the first part of two semesters course, and whit this, I will have my social communication degree.

In this course I do with three classmates, a research of the right of communication in Chile to compare with the international rights.

The “Television Production” course was difficult because I had to do, with all of my classmates, a television program of 30 minutes. The program was called “Desde El Sótano”, and these was a music and arts show, with notes of emerging artists, and a live music show, with an emerging Chilean band.

I participate in a student’s project too. This called “Tv Para Chile” an internet streaming project with shows created by Journalism and film students. In this I’m the host of a show called “El Viral”, a program of pop culture. Furthermore, I did the website of the project, and I was the communication coordinator until July of this year. 

a good decision

I really was not very happy when I knew the hours of English class. Mainly because at
that time I had a sporadic work on afternoons and sometimes I took care of my baby nephew. Was very difficult for me to go to the class, and some days definitely couldn’t go. On some moment I thought drop out the class because I really had no time. But if I hadn’t that course, I wouldn’t could to license. Finally I decide take the course and I very satisfy with this. Now I have a lot more English vocabulary, and my capacity to understand English conversations has grown. The blogging experience was very good. I have great experience on the blog world, when I was a teenager I had a poetry blog, and a opinion blog. Today I work in many blog platforms when I practice the digital journalism. But I never write in English in my blogs. This exercise is great tool to improve the English writing and to expand the vocabulary. The exercises every time have more words for increase the difficult. One of the cons of this exercise is the little feedback of teacher with latest blog posts. A good feedback mens a great students improve.

Nowadays the information runs very fast on the web. At last years, the social networks are a very important tool for journalism.  One of them is twitter a very simple social network. 

Only in one hundred forty characters the twitter users writes in real time what happens in their life, in their country, or at the world. The mass media uses this social network to announcing the news that they publish. 

Born in 2007, twitter was created like a simple “microblog” for the people. But at the following year, the application won a lot of followers, mainly, because information flows very fast. Today twitter is a important tool for communicate important national and world events. The last Chilean earthquake is a good example. The communication pathways were broken in the country behind the quake.  Because of Twitter, the journalists reported the recent events related to the earthquake and tsunami on real time.

For me twitter is a very important site. I work in two student’s projects like a community manager.  Because this,  i visit frecuently this website. Is one of my work tools. 

I like this site for all what I mentioned earlier.

TV Para Chile

The students of journalism and film careers at Universidad de Chile have many ideas to make new media. But in practice they always worked separately.

But at last year, a group of students of both careers created a media project to support the students protest. This project is called “TV PARA CHILE”, a Tv Channel on internet, with programs with social contents. The initiative combines the communication knowledge of journalism students, and the audiovisual expertise of film and tv students.

“Tv Para Chile” began as a 24 hours marathon, but today the transmission is three days a month. In these days are live and pre-recorded shows, made by students. Also in streaming shows the latest works of film and tv students.

Everyday “Tv Para Chile” grows more. On last December, project wins the “Fondo Azul”, a fund granted by Universidad de Chile to student’s initiative.

Today there are students of sound, theatrical design, and engineering career, in the project. Furthermore are integrate other college students, they are from “Universidad de Santiago”, and “Universidad Católica”.

My nephew in my blog again...

I have many favorite pictures. The decision to choose one is very difficult. But after many minutes I finally decided. This is my favorite photograph. I take this photo because it is captured a very unusual expression of a two month baby.

The photo shows my little nephew in my house. He has two months in this picture. He is very curious and this photo captures this. In this moment, his mother does funny faces for him, and he looks her with this frightened face.  

This picture was taken in a weekend on May, 2012.  I took this photograph for the photo class, but I never showed up to teachers, because is started the students protest.

I like this photo because represents good moments in my family.   In the followed months my mother with my sister (the mother of my nephew), have a bad relationship. In present days my nephew is the only thing that unites them.

my little nephew

    The Baby in the picture is my nephew. His name is Cristobal, and have 1 year old. He is the son of my sister Diana.

He is a very restless and curious baby, he like playing with all things of my home. He learned to walk recently, and his mother follows him for each part of home.

He still doesn’t speak, he only babble a few words, like “mama”, “papa” and “auto”. He sings when the radio is on.

My mother takes care of him every day, because my sister goes to “preuniversitario” in mornings, and works in afternoons.

I really love my nephew, is like a son for me. He always smiles when I get home. He is the happiness of my home. 

My notebook

My favorite piece of technology is my notebook. Mainly because this is not only for connect to internet, this is my work tool. Every day I need my notebook to realize university homework, for write some for my job, or to repair one of the website that I admin.
I got it since 2010's Christmas, and is  my father’s gift. I was no expecting this, but in that time I really needed a personal computer.
Everyday I use my notebook, I sometimes think that I’m his prisoner because there is always work.
I  like my notebook because is very fast, and  has every program that I need. But I imagine a life without this, and think that would a very free life.

This is my favorite band

The Cure is one of my favorites bands. They are from England and have a thirty years career. Their discography have thirteen albums, and their sound is one of the most influential for artists at the world. Their singer, Robert Smith, is characterized for his singulary hair, very red lips and dark clothes.

In the First times, The Cure plays punk's music, but in  following years the band plays from the  "dark wave" music to dancing rythms. 

I Like this band because their sound  and lyrics are very diferents. Is easy to combine  pop sounds with complex sounds for them.

I like many favourite  songs of The Cure. One of them calls  "A Forest", i like because this sound is very simple, dark and dancing.

Welcome to my blog

Hello. I’m Iván Cea, I have 22 years old. I was born  on september 4, 1989. I study journalism at Institute of communication and image at Universidad de Chile. I like music, films, comics, arts, and the last web contents. I don’t like the sport very much, I only like two sports, the first is tennis, and the second one is wrestling, but this is a show more than a sport.
I live with my mother, my two younger brothers (Juan and Diana), and my baby nephew, his name is Cristobal and he has only 1 year old.
In my career I like very much the audiovisual area and digital area. Today I work on both areas: I’m  the host of “El Viral”, a web streaming program, and I’m the webmaster of two websites “Revistavaso.cl” and “tvparachile.cl”.
